Ballistic nylon, polyester mesh
This sturdy pocket mounts on your waist strap and keeps your backup mask safe and handy. You may also use it as a utility pocket to carry small items such as backup lights, spare spools etc.
The pocket’s back is made from 1200 denier ballistic nylon reinforced with polyurethane. The pocket’s front is made from expanding polyester mesh which drains and dries instantly. A nice feature is adjustable nylon webbing which allows you to tighten the plastic buckle to your preference.
- Mounts on 5 cm (2 in) webbing
- Polyester mesh for easy drainage and drying
- Size: 22 x 11 cm (9 x 4 in)
Note: You can certainly stow your backup mask in thigh pockets or butt pockets (or indeed wherever you like), but it must always be accessible quickly and by touch alone (you are blind at that point). Stowing your backup mask along with other gear introduces the risk of entanglement during urgent retrieval from the pocket. Or you may lose other gear which falls out of the pocket when you retrieve the backup mask. This will make a bad situation much worse.
At XR Scuba we ask tec divers to carefully consider how they stow their primary and backup equipment, and to regularly rehearse emergency deployments during practice dives. Stowing your backup mask in a dedicated pocket on your waist strap makes life a lot easier. As an added bonus, twinset divers can mount the mask pocket where a dive light battery canister would traditionally be mounted. This allows you to loop your long hose around the pocket, instead of tucking it into the waist strap.
